Good Mental Health Morning All,
Today, May 16th, there was a fascinating section on CBS Morning Show celebrating Mental Health Action Day. The animated feature highlighted the 3 steps that we can easily remember (similar to Stop, Drop, and Roll for fire safety). These are A.S.K. or Acknowledge, Support, and Keep-in-Touch.
This report made an impact on ME today because, over the last month, I have heard from several of YOU after my blog posts! It is such a good feeling to have friends who care who you are and acknowledge you. Even the strongest person (or seemingly strongest) has times of questioning and lack of confidence. In a new career, and at my age, these times come often.
One way I suggest to counteract these feelings is to read a children’s book or a middle grade story. This week I read They All Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel, with especially cool illustrations (Caldecott HONOR illustrations) of the many ways cats are seen through the eyes of others. I love watching animals, (and people), trying to figure out what’s going on in their brains to make sense of this world.
I also picked up The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, a book that has been in my collection for a long time. And I just noted that there is now a sequel called Broken People. Books like these show me how other people struggle through their lives in much worse circumstances than I have.
So, let’s ALL pick up a good children’s book today and let our minds hover gently over the words and pictures, and maybe think of a friend from a time past who could use a call.
Have Another Thoughtful Thursday!
Pat
