Happy Halloween Y’All,
This is my apology for staying out of your in-box in October. I had over-committed myself and had to realize that I didn’t need to become a social media guru author, or a workaholic author, or an all-around author/speaker/presenter author; after all, I’m retired. I just wanted to be me, write a few books, and share the strengths I have developed being an educator.
As I have added years, I have discovered that I am similar to other humans in many ways. My knees tell me when enough movement is enough. My brain tells me when decisions that need to be made are due or over-due, or sometimes can’t be made without more study. My emotions turn up and down at will: UP when looking at grandkids’ new school pictures or watching kitty track Bella’s tail; DOWN when my blood pressure spikes precariously or election news breaks into my consciousness. I’ll bet some of you have felt similar body messages, too.
On the other hand, I have found that I am unlike other people in my own unique ways. Figuring out that I am creating a writing career has helped me identify which core values to spend MORE time on and which non-values to avoid. For example, I value highly the support of family and friends, especially my writing friends who can steer me in positive directions. (A special thanks to my Picture Book Partners: Dorie, Mary, Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Terrie.) Consequently, I do NOT value the multitude of on-liners who say I need to buy one more webinar or one more week of summit presentations to be the best writer.
All in all, this simple understanding has taken me years to figure out and shows me that it is in my own power to develop my uniqueness without becoming someone I am not.
After a Less-Than-Organized October, I’m looking forward to a Niftier November!
Pat
